STAR

The birds
stopped their singing today
And the air
had a different sort of chill
The sun's brightness
seemed somewhat dimmed
Perhaps worst of all
were the stars
My old standby
Seemed to sigh in their places
and i swear i could nearly see
A fiery tear
sliding down their glowing cheeks
Of course i know why
all that was living
now seems dead
But that's unimportant
reasons never matter
only results
I honestly can say
i understand what happened
and i'll support you in it
at least as much as you'll allow
But I really can't do much
This is your game
and i'm just another spectator
as always cheering you on
praying for your victory
Your happiness
Your success
and always hoping
your pain
won't be too great
And there will be pain
good times too
without a doubt
but always the pain
I hope
this doesn't worry you
it's not meant to
For this a game
i knew you would someday want to play
Surprised
don't be
I can't fight the game
never thought i could
that would be insane
The game
is everlasting
and all powerful
And everyone must play
no one escapes
without the sting of the game
So good luck my dearest
take care
prepare yourself well
And you may win
but never be to sure
I thought
for awhile
i'd beaten it
Now i find
i must play again
though i've no wish to
I have an edge this time
i know what i want
The birds to sing
The air to be warm
The sun to shine
And the stars
to laugh again
I'll wait
let the game run it's course
With a little luck
we'll both win
you and i
will get what we want
All will be well
All will be right
The stars
will laugh once more
