Night
 falls silently
It's children
 awake
Torn
 from their fitful dreams
Again
 they'll prowl the night
Looking for a life
 that can never be
Searching for love
 they can never have
They drink
 to kill their pain
But pain
 is a patient foe
He knows
 sooner or later
The very souls
 of the night's children
Will lie
 gaping
 open
 waiting
 for his tortuous blows
They run
 screaming
Searching for shelter
 in a world
 filled with enemies
and those who do not care
Dawn
 awakes
And for awhile
 the enemy
Is beaten back
 away from their fragile selfs
Slowly
 sleep comes
Mixed
 with tears
 and apprehension
Their souls
 welcome the respite
 brief though it may be
Till
 once again
The battle
In which they cannot die
 only be maimed
 will begin anew
And life
 love
 and all that matters
Will elude them
 once more
